Totoro Forest, Part II

The Totoro Forest Project was a success. Dice & co. did an amazing job organizing the event, the turnout was great and every single piece sold. They raised over $200,000 for the Totoro Forest fund, and I believe the books are sold out (though it may be possible to purchase one at the Cartoon Art Museum where the work is currently being displayed). Here's a snapshot from the Cartoon Art Museum:

Inspiration

It's been a while since we last made a blog post as our minds and time have been occupied preparing for the past few events as well as some great upcoming ones. So to kick things off again, here is an inspirational video I recently saw. It's a commencement speech by J.K. Rowling given to the Harvard graduates.

Figures & Grounds

It has been said that the human figure is one of the most imminent challenges for an artist.  It also serves as a sort of checkpoint for a truer understanding of an artist's stylistic approach which sets him or her apart from others.  It is a common ground that is universally understood and helps call attention to an artist's individual uniqueness.  This Saturday, September 13, marks the opening of Figures & Grounds.  Months in the making, this show brings together an eclectic mix of artistic talents all focused on the same subject...the figurative form.  This body of work features representation, abstraction, and various degrees of surrealism to offer what Kate Zuppann from Juxtapoz says to be "a delightful array of diverse new eye candy."

This Saturday's opening reception runs from 7 to 11 pm.  Some artists will be in attendance and extraordinary artwork is promised as exclusive preview images bear witness below.

Christian Rex Van Minnen - Abstract Figure 2.3

Andrew Robinson - The Causes

Mari Inukai - Shiawasenokiiro

The opening reception is free admission with free refreshments.  Come join us for an evening of art.
