Amautalab @ Grafuck

During this weekend's GRAFUCK reception, we will be screening a new film by Amautalab entitled "The Blindness of the Woods."  Amautalab is a multidisciplinary creative studio based in LA with offices in Buenos Aires and Lima.  Although they currently have projects in the works for both Toyota and MTV, Amautalab directors Carlos Battilana and Martin Jalfen strive and thrive best working on experimental projects because they believe it is "the only way to nurture and grow new ideas."

"The Blindness of the Woods" draws inspiration from the genre of 70s porn, while at the same time injecting a bit of cuteness into the motif.  Screenshots of the film appear in the new Grafuck 4 book release.  In addition to the screening, we will also be featuring some fun merchandise based off of the film including DVDs, apparel, posters, and finger puppets that may make you blush.

GRAFUCK FOUR-PLAY

This Saturday, April 11, marks the second time that Gallery Nucleus will present GRAFUCK, an international erotic art exhibit featuring a diverse group of over 50 established and emerging artists celebrating the release of the newest edition to the Grafuck art book series.

The work in this year's exhibit is a balance of illustration, photography, fine art, and graphic design.  With more than 80 works in total, it showcases a variety of mediums from oil to paper cut, ink on paper to digital.  The exhibit will feature installation work as well as a film entitled The Blindness of the Woods (more about the film later this week).  Many pieces are figurative and others are quite clever in concept.  It is a solid collection of images providing a current global overview of one of the most fundamentally relevant aspects of life.

The book release marks the fourth in the series since its inception in 2005.  This edition boasts an impressive centerfold illustrated by the award-winning James Jean.  You can pre-order the new book here.  Pre-ordering the book is the only way to ensure you will receive a copy signed by the artists attending the reception.

Ancient Book of Sex & Science Pre-Order!

The Ancient Book of Sex & Science Exhibition is coming up in a matter of weeks!

In the meantime, don't miss out on the chance to pre-order the accompanying hardcover book, which features fantastic artwork directly from the show. Featuring pieces by animators and designers Don Shank, Lou Romano, Nate Wragg, and Scott Morse, the second volume of the Ancient Book series explores the overlap of sex and science. This collection of images draws upon a vibrant, full color palette and bold, supple linework to comment on advances in the scientific realm--and the role that seduction and fantasy (in every sense of the words!) plays in the process.
